The Martial Arts Charity Alliance (M.A.C.A.) along with Bujinkan Will of Fire Dojo would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who helped make the 2nd Annual Self Defense Charity Event for Jaimie Fredricks another great success. The hard work, kindness, and generosity from all the 6 martial arts instructors (Rich Cearley, Terry Ham, Torey Overstreet, George Russell, Mark Lipsinic, and R. Threz Gonzalez) and the many donors / participants definitely made this fundraising event very meaningful.
This year we were very honored that Jaimie and her parents (Akiko and Mark Fredricks) came to the event. It was evident that they were happy to see all the people, from near and far, come together to join them in their efforts to fight and beat Stage IV Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor (DSRCT)! In fact, Jaimie expressed her appreciation and showed her strength and courage by singing a wonderful acapella rendition of "Fight Song."
Thanks, as well, to Laura Ann Hayes and R. Threz Gonzalez for obtaining many of our awesome raffle prizes and organizing M.A.C.A., Pepper Leeds for all the administrative help. Thanks to all who brought tables, food/snacks, put up signs, videotaping/ timing, and took pictures (TJ and Mimi McFall, Philip Bergman, Darren Sharpe, Trey Rollins III, Kevin Rutherford, Nicole Flores, D Tran, and Robert Grecia). Lastly, thank you to all the additional folks who helped set-up / clean-up the venue. SALUTE to TITLE Boxing Club (Westchase location), Midas (Dairy Ashford location), LA Fitness (S. Eldridge location), and Gluten Free Nation for generously donating all the awesome raffle items.
We hope everyone who attended the event had a great time learning the variety of practical self-defense techniques and CONGRATS to all our raffle winners (raffle result details posted in our official Facebook Event Page).
This is D reporting for the dojo. It's been a while since we've hit the blog and much has happened since! We've had parties, seminars, belt tests, and more. Most recently we did another demo for the Houston Museum of Natural Science. They hosted a Star Wars event to pay homage to the samurai influences on the Jedi. The museum will be hosting 2 more Star Wars themed events and our dojo will be performing both times - one this month (July) and one in August. If you're asking, the answer is "Yes!" We have acquired several functional light sabers and will be using them in our demo. Stay tuned for pictures and a report on those events.
Continuing on, our annual Self-Defense Charity event is taking place next week, and we're honored to host 5 other martial arts instructors. Look forward to a fun and action-packed weekend; we are expecting a big turn-out this year! Please come out to support our event and help Jaimie in her battle with cancer! For more info, check out our events page.
We've also booked a beautiful beachfront location for our Annual Summer Training/Trip! Students have already been invited through Facebook. If you haven't received an invitation, check with us in class. Training will mostly cover shuriken, but bring your katana just in case (we may be doing tameshigiri). We're also celebrating one of our shidoshi-ho's birthday, so be ready to get your party on!
Okay folks, that's it for now. This is D signing off... See ya!
