With the testing still fresh in mind, the Squad would like to offer some helpful hints for future testers. Most students have been in class long enough to have a pretty good idea of what Sensei is looking for in the tests. And I think nearly everyone has been around to see at least one, if not several, tests being given. Not to mention ones taken yourselves, ninjas. Sensei Threz is very consistent. There are certain answers he is looking for EVERY SINGLE TIME. Yet everyone seems to flub these parts of the tests. Please know the Squad is bringing you this information with peace and love. I want you to succeed! Are you ready?
When Sensei asks to tell him about a particular kamae, one of the most important parts is the attitude or mental state of the kamae. This is discussed in class ALL OF THE TIME. Why doesn't anyone bring it up? Why does the Squad want to shout out "MENTAL STATE!!" every time this question is asked during testing? Go to your notes right now and write the attitude of every single kamae/posture in your kyu. Big brownie points for this, ninjas.
And....here's the big one: the virtue portion of your kyu accounts for 50%, IF NOT MORE, of your exam. PLEASE think about these questions. Wrestle with them. Ask questions. Apply them to your daily life. Write the papers. It doesn't have to be complicated or long-winded. I promise.
You got this.
Peace and Love.
